Community Outreach
MTC partners annually with several community and social service organizations to provide access to view professional live theatre productions, theatre training, and performance opportunities to financially-challenged and underserved populations. Partnerships have included the Westport Public Schools, A Better Chance of Westport, Westport Center for Senior Activities, and ongoing partnerships with the Norwalk Housing Authority and STAR of Norwalk (which serves emotionally and physically challenged adults). These programs provide access to arts education and performance that is unavailable and/or financially out of reach for underserved students and adults.
The MTC experience has truly been life-changing for many of these participants, not only from a creative perspective which blossoms in our nurturing, non-competitive environment; but also has been shown to endow them with the vital life skills of mutual respect, self-confidence, problem-solving, socialization, and collaboration which provide fundamentals of success in all professional and personal life paths. These programs are free to participants and funded by MTC through corporate, state, and private support.
