About

A gripping reimagination of events the night before the assassination of the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On April 3, 1968, after delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious stranger arrives with some surprising news, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people.


Who’s Who

SHAVONNA BANKS (Camae)
is a New York City based actor represented by Stewart Talent​ Theatrically. Classically trained, she attended Rutgers Mason Gross Conservatory as well as studying at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and Interlochen Arts Academy. She recently portrayed as Zoe Reed in the debut performance of The Niceties, and played Camae in a recent performance of The Mountaintop at Arc Stages. Shavonna also enjoys a busy commercial schedule.

CHAZ ROSE (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.)
is thrilled to be making his MTC debut. His off-Broadway credits include Black Angels Over Tuskegee and She Like Girls (GLAAD Award winner). He produced and appeared in the film Writer’s Block, starring Bryan Cranston. Favorite credits include Ragtime, Little Shop of Horrors, Full Monty, Topdog/Underdog, Elf, The Little Mermaid, Court-Martial at Ft. Devens, Prom, and Our Town. He is a graduate of The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and a proud member of Actors’ Equity. He is thankful for the never-ending support he receives from his beautiful wife, family, and friends.


GAYLE SAMUELS (Director)
is happy to return to the Music Theatre of Connecticut as a director, after performing at the theatre and receiving a Best Actress Nomination for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill. Most recently she appeared on Broadway in Children Of A Lesser God directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon. She also recently worked with Peter Dinklage originating the role of The Chaperone in Cyrano at The Goodspeed Opera House and she won a Best in Fest award for her staged reading direction of Mississippi the Musical at the New York Musical (NYMF) Festival. Other Broadway credits include Sunset Blvd, Dancin’, and Grind. Off-Broadway she recently played Barbara Cooley in MsTrial, Gloria in Sistas, Josephine Baker in The Dark Star From Harlem, and Ronnette in Little Shop of Horrors. She toured internationally as a featured vocalist with Harry Belafonte, starred in Russia in Sophisticated Ladies, debuted at The Met in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk and has received rave reviews for her portrayal of Rose in August Wilson’s Fences and Louise in Seven Guitars. Her television and film credits include Girls5eva, The Flight Attendant, Blue Bloods, Bull, Madam Secretary, The Americans and she recently guest starred on the new ABC hit Queens. Gayle was also the Associate Casting Director for the Grammy Award winning Broadway hit, Smokey Joe’s Cafe directed by Jerry Zaks, Twist directed by Debbie Allen and the Segment Casting Coordinator of HBO’s, Notes From the Field written by Anna Deavere Smith.
