Music Theatre of Connecticut MainStage, Fairfield County's award-winning professional theatre company, continues its 2015/2016 season with the Fairfield County professional premiere of the Tony-Award winning"Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" by Christopher Durang. The cast of "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" includes Christopher DeRosa as Spike, who appeared in the critically-acclaimed MTC MainStage production of "Evita" and was nominated for a Connecticut Critics Circle Award for Best Lead Actor in a Musical for the title role in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Cynthia Hannah plays Sonia, and has been seen in the MTC MainStage productions of "God of Carnage," "Almost, Maine" and the world premiere of "A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play" as well as on stage at Westport Country Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre and on television in "The Guiding Light," "All My Children" and in over a hundred commercials. Carissa Massaro plays Nina, and has appeared on Broadway in "Jane Eyre," at STAGES St. Louis as Chava in "Fiddler on the Roof," as Belle in "Beauty and the Beast" and in MTC MainStage productions including "Evita" and "The Fantasticks." Jim Schilling plays Vanya, and credits include "Upper Broadway" at Westport Country Playhouse, "Hamlet" with Tony Roberts, "South Pacific" with Jamie Farr and MTC MainStage productions including "Yours, Anne," "It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play," "Doubt," "God of Carnage" and "The Fantasticks." Film credits include "Bullets Over Broadway," "Cadillac Man," "Soapdish" and as Sean Penn’s double in "Dead Man Walking." Katie Sparer plays Cassandra, and has appeared in MTC MainStage productions including "Doubt" and "Almost, Maine." Jodi Stevens plays Masha, and appeared in the original Broadway companies of "Urban Cowboy" and "Jekyll and Hyde." Off-Broadway and regional credits include "Dietrich and Chevalier: The Musical," Barry Manilow’s "Harmony" at La Jolla Playhouse and Lily St. Regis in "Annie" at Goodspeed Opera House. MTC MainStage credits include "My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra" and "Love Letters" opposite her husband, Scott Bryce. TV credits include "Sex in the City" and "Central Park West."
"Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" is directed by Pamela Hill, whose previous MTC MainStage credits include "Rodgers and Hart" and "Side by Side by Sondheim." Regional credits include Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Contemporary American Theatre Company, The Human Race Theatre Company, Short North Stage and Actors' Theatre.
The design team includes set design by Carl Tallent, lighting by Joshua Scherr, costumes by Diane Vanderkroef and sound by Sarah Pero. The production is stage managed by Cameron Nadler.

Who's Who
Christopher DeRosa (Spike) couldn't be happier to be back at MTC MainStage after playing Magaldi in Evita! Favorite credits include Fabrizio in The Light in the Piazza, Captain Walker in The Who's Tommy and Joseph in Joseph... Dreamcoat (Nominated for a Connecticut Critics Circle Award for Best Lead Actor in a Musical). Cynthia Hannah (Sonia) A familiar face to MTC audiences. Cynthia has performed in God of Carnage, Almost Maine and the world premiere of A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play. In addition to over 120 TV commercials she has appeared in The Guiding Light, All My Children and Billy Joel’s video "Keeping the Faith." Theatre credits include the Westport Country Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre and the Stamford Theatre Works. Her play, The Pope was performed in The Theatre Artist's Worshop's playwright’s festival with MTC co-founder Jim Schilling. She is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and has studied with Uta Hagen.
Carissa Massaro (Nina) is thrilled to be a part of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike at MTC MainStage! She was recently seen this past fall in the MTC production of Evita as The Mistress. Favorite credits include Jane Eyre (Broadway), Luisa in The Fantasticks (MTC), Chava in Fiddler on the Roof (STAGES St. Louis) and Belle in Beauty and the Beast. Special thanks to Kevin and Jimmy for an incredible experience. Carissa sends love to her amazing parents, brother Brandon, the rest of her family and her one and only Chris.
Jim Schilling (Vanya) co-founded MTC in 1987 and has served as teaching artist, Artist in Residence, director, general manager, actor, producer and currently as Director of the School of Performing Arts and MTC’s Managing Director. Acting credits include John Guare’s A Day For Surprises, Upper Broadway (Westport Country Playhouse), Hamlet (with Tony Roberts), South Pacific (with Jamie Farr) The Fantasticks (Rich Forum) and on MTC’s MainStage in Jacques Brel is Alive and Well..., Three Guys Naked from the Waist Down, Yours, Anne, It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, Doubt, Almost Maine, God of Carnage, The Fantasticks and A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play last season. Film credits include Bullets Over Broadway, Cadillac Man, Soapdish and as Sean Penn’s double in Dead Man Walking. Jim holds a BFA degree in Musical Theatre from Otterbein College and was also trained at the Actors’ Theatre of Louisville, Playwright’s Horizons in New York City and Improv Asylum in Boston. Jim, a graduate of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts’ AMICI Arts Management Program, continues as a Blue Ribbon Panelist for the Daytime Emmy Awards, and is on the voting committee for the SAG awards, and a member of “Who’s Who in the American Theatre” from 1991-present. Jim is a proud member of Actors Equity Association since 1980. Member AEA, SAG, AFTRA.
Katie Sparer (Cassandra) is thrilled to be appearing at MTC's beautiful new space. Previous shows with the company include Doubt and Almost Maine. Some of her many NY theatre credits: Broadway: Awake & Sing (understudy). Off-Broadway: The Rise and Rise of Daniel Rocket (Playwright's Horizons), Shayna Maidle (Westside Arts), Renovations (Theatre for the New City), Ruthless (Stage 72). Regional Theatres include: The Alley, Missouri Rep, Cincinnati Playhouse, Studio Arena, American Conservatory Theatre, CT Free Shakespeare. Pamela Hill (Director) is delighted to return to MTC (Rogers and Hart, Side by Side by Sondheim). An award-winning director, Pam has worked at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Contemporary American Theatre Company, The Human Race Theatre Company, Short North Stage and Actors' Theatre. She has also guest directed or taught at numerous universities including Wittenberg, Denison, Bradley and The Hartt School. Pam has degrees from Otterbein and BGSU, and trained at Actors Theatre of Louisville and RADA in London.
